Still Life

I love to paint still life. I have a quirky collection of objects, and I enjoy putting them together to see how they will relate to one another. I spend time arranging the still life and lighting it to create interesting and colorful shadows. I don't usually pre-sketch it - the act of arranging and rearranging the objects serves as a compositional "sketch". When it feels right, I will jump right in to painting, and respond directly to my setup in the same way as I respond to the landscape or figure, painting quickly and directly.
